Just a few hours out of downtown Nairobi, Kisamese, in the Masai Land

This Sunday was time to leave again Nairobi. Since I arrived in Kenya, I have been really busy with work in Kenya's capital, but I still managed to visit two cities outside Nairobi, Kisumu, in Western Kenya, and Kisamese, in the Masai Land, in South Western Kenya.

Kisamese is a couple of hours away from Nairobi. It lies in the middle of a dry montainy territory, which seems miles away from the big city.

Almost deserted, often suffering from water shortage, Kisamese is in the middle of the land of the Masai tribes. It is wonderfully peaceful and quiet. Isolated in plains alonside the Rift Valley, the view you have from its hills only offers acacias, wild fields and a blue sky. Here the Masai people keeps on living its nomadic and pastoral way of life.

Inside the Olepolos Country Club, Masai welcome visitors for a grilled meat meal, the 'nyama choma', a meal made only of a large piece of grilled goat's meat to share. You would think it might taste a bit exotic... It turns out it is simply a delicious piece of grilled meat, even more enjoyable since shared.

From the restaurant's terraces, you can easily enjoy the wonderful view on the plain. After the meal, on Sundays, some Masai often come and perform a few dances. They also sell hand-made jewels at the club's entrance.

Most Kenyans and visitors come here on Sundays. The club only opens on weekends and public holidays. Enjoying the peacefulness of a moment in the Kisamese region is just a pleasure you shouldn't deprive yourself of if you're around Nairobi.
